Paul (PJ) Jacob Ratcliffe

Paul (PJ) Jacob Ratcliffe

Attorney

Biography:

PJ is a long-time resident of Wheeling, West Virginia. After graduating high school from Wheeling Central Catholic in 2011, PJ made it his mission to somehow find a way back to the community that helped raise him and join a profession that would allow him to give back and serve those who provided an influence on him. PJ does not come from a family of lawyers, but does come from parents who always instilled in him a belief to stick up for what is right, and to provide a voice for those who are unable to speak for themselves. Those are the exact reasons why PJ decided to go to law school. PJ has been involved in some capacity assisting with, or representing people who have either been injured by a negligent party, or taken advantage of by the insurance industry since he was 19. Since those early days, PJ has developed an unwavering passion to help, serve, and assist people who have sought legal assistance. While he considers himself to be a Mountaineer through and through, PJ also became licensed in the State of Ohio to help Buckeyes also needing legal help. Just don’t ask him to root for Ohio State.

PJ is married to his lovely wife, Carla (Marque) Ratcliffe, a teacher at Wheeling Central. PJ is the head varsity hockey coach for Wheeling Central Catholic High School, and although they have no children on the team, they both like to consider each of the 20+ players and students as one of their own. In the stands you will find Marque cheering on her students and every once in a while, questioning a referee’s call. PJ would like to think that hockey has become a mutual love for both himself and Marque. She may disagree.

Community:

PJ is heavily involved in hockey in Wheeling and throughout West Virginia. PJ serves as the President of the Mountain State Hockey League which serves as the governing body for high school hockey in the State of West Virginia and manages the West Virginia State High School hockey tournament used by USA Hockey to provide high school students in West Virginia the opportunity to play at the USA Hockey National Tournament in March each year. PJ serves as the head hockey coach and serves on the board of governors for the 9-time West Virginia High School state champion Central Catholic High School and is heavily involved with the Junior Knights middle school hockey program. PJ is also an advocate of Kathy’s House Foundation, which provides a free residence for those who have loved ones undergoing long term medical care at WVU Medicine’s Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Glen Dale, West Virginia. While not practicing law or coaching hockey in some capacity, PJ enjoys spending time with his wife, trying to get good at golf, playing pickleball, or otherwise being outdoors.
